COURSE HIGHLIGHTS

Prague Castle

Prague Castle – an ancient symbol of the Czech lands – is the most significant Czech monument and one of the most important cultural institutions in the Czech Republic. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m². The whole castle is dominated by the  St. Vitus Cathedral, which is one of the most beautiful and monumental in Europe. Prague Castle is also the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. During your race you will have wonderful view on the Castle  many times.

Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge is Prague’s oldest bridge –  its construction started in 1357. Charles Bridge crosses the Vltava river and connects the Old Town and Lesser Town. From 1683 to 1928, 30 statues of saints were carved to decorate the bridge. It is said that egg yolks were mixed into the mortar to strengthen the construction of the bridge. Charles Bridge has survived many floods, most recently in August 2002 when the country experienced the worst flood in the past 500 years. So it seems the egg yolks must have been a great idea. We recommend you to go for a walk here early in the morning when the Bridge is empty and not so crowded. Then you can enjoy marvelous sunrise above Prague. The best view on Charles Bridge you will have during swim course that is quite close to the Bridge.

The National Theatre in Prague is a stunning neo-Renaissance building dating. The National Theatre is the Czech Republic’s representative stage, built with funds from a nationwide collection and first opened in 1881, and for the second time in 1883 after a devastating fire. For Czech people, the National Theatre is the most important cultural institutions in Prague.  It is set majestically by the Vltava River and FORD CHALLENGEPRAGUE participants will pass it during run course.

Vyšehrad

Vyšehrad is a historical fort located in the historical centre of Prague. It was built, probably in the 10th century, on a hill over the Vltava River. Situated on a rocky promontory above the Vltava River, it offers stunning views of the city, park areas and many architectural monuments. At the 21th century, Vyšehrad retains its atmosphere of magic and mystery.

Old legends  say, that legendary Bohemian princess Libuse reigned from Vyšehrad. She was allegedly a prophetess and foretold that the city of Prague will be founded nearby, saying: “I can see a large city, whose fame will reach the stars.
